Overview
An investigative trip to visit Missionaries working in Papua, Indonesia uncovered a huge amount of work needed there. There was an immediate need to assist two families with home maintenance and some new building. In addition, we were able to meet others in need of assistance in the near future (including new home builds, renovations and the like. Trips in 2015 are planned for this area

After initial climatisation BuildAid director Ian meet with SIL regional director and visited the Papua Training Centre in Sentani. The focus of discussions centred primarily on how we could best service those working in West Papua. The needs were great to say the least.

BuildAid was able to travel to HaHa village in the remote area of to restrump the home of Ron & Erin Hesse. We went not knowing what the conditions were like or what materials would actually be needed. All we had to go by were some photos emailed to us. Building experience really comes into play in situations like this. During this visit we were able to also install the water tank, installed a new cover for the septic tank, put up a clotheslines.

BuildAid director Ian was able to travel to Taria to visit Peter Wai’s home. Once there he was able carry out some immediate improvements and discuss future works. A toilet was connected and tiling worked on. He even had time for some roofing!
Perhaps one of the most memorable events of this trip was the medical evacuation arranged for a young village girl that had suffered extensive scolding to her face. We were able to assist with getting her on a medivac flight to hospital for treatment.
BuildAid has also been able to hold talks regarding future use of Wycliffe centre complex in Sentani with the view to drawing up long term usage arrangements and occupancy.
